Recycle ♻️ your old records!

I'm not a super crafty person like others but I do have some good ideas, time after time! 😉

So when I seen someone was getting rid of a bunch of scratches up vinyl records that no longer could be played and were being toss in the garbage if not collected, I sent them a message and picked them up the same night!

I set myself up with the easiest system I could think of after researching a few different ways to melt and form records into different shapes, by using a large pot filled with water and heated to a boiling point.

I used a large bowl and a glass jar flipped upside down to help start with the forming of the base of my flower pots.

Once the water is boiling turn down the heat to about a low/simmer temperature. If you have heat proof gloves that won't melt from the water temperature, I highly recommend using them, otherwise you will carefully begin to dip the record into the pot and as it heats up it will soften quickly.

Work the record by dipping it in and out of the water until it's soft enough to to start molding it.

Place the record onto the jar and begin to press to shape quickly as it cools down fast and hardens quickly. If you still need to form the record on a specific side to finish the full planter, just lightly and gently dip in water to lightly soften and then remove and form quickly.

Continue until you are done with all your remaining planters. Then grab some paint that is not black and lighten up the colours to help avoid melting or wrapping in the sun.
